Plac Europejski - a new address and destination in Warsaw
The area surrounding Ronda Daszyńskiego in Warsaw is now one of the fastest growing areas of the capital. Ghelamco, the developer of the Warsaw Spire office complex, one of the biggest office project’s currently under development in the CEE region, has decided to change the traditional approach to arranging the space around this development by creating the first large, and coherently designed square, that combines public and business functions, while also restoring the availability of this area to the inhabitants of Warsaw.
To create this square, Ghelamco invited Wirtz International Landscape Architects from Belgium, who to their credit have designed outstanding projects like Jubilee Park in London's Canary Wharf. Wirtz’s proposal is to create a relaxing place, which appeals and caters to everyone in the newly established business center of the capital, and, at the same time, also corresponds to the needs of the tenants of the Warsaw Spire complex.
Features of the square include much greenery as well as a flowing stream, which will cascade through the entire length of the square. Additionally, the area of the square will be lined with 1,300 tons of Portuguese granite - the same that surrounds the area around the famous pyramid in the courtyard of the Louvre.
Additional attractions for visitors to the square will be an amphitheatre that will be a combination of space for cultural events, and concerts and will embrace the whole panorama of Plac Europejski. Another area will be created for temporary exhibitions from young contemporary artists. This specially designed structure will be adapted for all year-round displays of paintings and sculptures. Other attractions will include many European restaurants, bars and cafes in specially designed areas of the square.
