P3 Logistic Parks rents inner-city logistics properties to Amazon

More capacity and flexibility for the last mile: P3 Logistic Parks built a distribution center for Amazon in Hoppegarten near Berlin. The long-term owner and developer of logistics real estate built the hall with a total area of 11,700 m2 in Digitalstraße from April to October 2019. The focus here is on last-mile solutions.

Amazon intends to use the new inner-city distribution center in Hoppegarten to meet the growing customer demand for fast and reliable parcel delivery. The warehouse developed for this purpose by P3 is located about 17 kilometers east of Berlin with a direct connection to the B1. It is divided into ultra-modern storage, loading and logistics areas as well as an office wing. The building complex has twelve gates, seven dock levellers and one jumbo dock leveller. Amazon also installed an automatic conveyor system and a mezzanine for parcel sorting in the hall. The planting of almost 130 trees around the hall and the greening of two hall walls on both sides ensures a pleasant working atmosphere and sufficient vegetation.

Sönke Kewitz, Managing Director P3 Germany, commented: “Especially in the field of e-commerce, the demands of the market on our customers are constantly increasing. We want to offer our partners future-proof buildings with which they can meet their individual requirements. In the case of Amazon, these are solutions in the area of ‘Last Mile’ and ‘Urban Logistics’. Since 2016, we have been researching with the ‘P3 Urban Logistics’ department in the area of inner city logistics in order to provide targeted support for our customers who are active in major European cities.

For companies such as Amazon, logistics real estate is one of the key components of an efficient supply chain. Logistics in urban areas is therefore becoming a decisive success factor for retailers, whether e-commerce, food or pharmaceuticals. P3 Logistic Parks has recognized the need and therefore wants to focus more on the development of last mile solutions and the acquisition of logistics real estate near cities in the future.
