Apsys is expanding its portfolio of food and leisure destinations across Poland, with its latest project – the restored Gdańsk Market Hall – opening this summer. The developer has already delivered successful concepts including Food Fyrtel at Posnania in Poznań.
Changing consumer lifestyles are driving demand for dining-led destinations. More Poles are eating out and looking for places that combine food, entertainment and social experiences, creating new opportunities for mixed-use real estate.
The flagship project is the revitalisation of the historic Gdańsk Market Hall, a PLN 141 million investment in the heart of the city. Originally built in 1896, the landmark has been transformed into a vibrant food, retail and cultural destination centred around the concept of “All Around Food”.
The three-level venue will feature:
- 34 food and retail units
- 17 street food concepts
- Full-service restaurants and three bars
- Fresh food and delicatessen market
- Two event stages for cultural and entertainment programmes
The surrounding public spaces will include a new fruit and vegetable market, family-friendly areas, food truck spaces and an outdoor event stage.
The redevelopment preserves the building’s historic character while introducing modern amenities. Original architectural features, historic market kiosks and medieval archaeological remains have been carefully restored, alongside contemporary technology including a digital ordering app, interactive exhibitions and immersive projection mapping.
“Food and entertainment are among the fastest-growing categories across our destinations,” said Benoit Charles, CEO of Apsys Polska. “We see these projects as new urban meeting places where people come together to eat, socialise and experience local culture. Gdańsk Market Hall perfectly reflects this vision.”
Apsys has already demonstrated the success of the concept with Food Fyrtel at Posnania, which combines 17 food concepts, a bar and a year-round programme of live music, outdoor cinema, family events and seasonal attractions. Since opening in late 2022, the venue has seen a growing base of repeat visitors, reinforcing its role as both a destination in its own right and a driver of customer loyalty for the wider retail scheme.
As demand for experience-led destinations continues to grow, Apsys sees food and leisure concepts playing an increasingly important role in creating vibrant urban spaces and enhancing the long-term value of commercial real estate.
