City Point Okęcie is the first building in Poland to feature Ruukki® LowCarbon sandwich panels with a reduced carbon footprint. This modern and sustainable logistics facility, owned by Peakside Capital, was developed through the collaboration of Ruukki Polska and Depenbrock Polska, responsible for the supply and installation of the façade products.
The Ruukki® LowCarbon panels were manufactured at Ruukki’s plant in Oborniki using SSAB Zero™ steel – a low-emission material produced from recycled steel scrap with biogas and fossil-free electricity. Thanks to the use of this steel and renewable-energy-based production processes, Ruukki® LowCarbon panels have an embedded carbon footprint 42 percent lower than standard panels, as confirmed by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
“This project is an excellent example of how we can revolutionize construction together with our partners and clients in the future. We are proud to contribute to the transformation of the construction industry through our new LowCarbon products, developed with sustainability and the full life cycle of buildings in mind,” says Waldemar Szostak, CEE Business Director at Ruukki.
City Point Okęcie is a Build-to-Suit (BTS) project comprising over 11,000 sqm of warehouse and office space. Designed to meet high environmental standards, it is one of the most innovative warehouse developments in the urban logistics market. The General Contractor is Depenbrock Polska.
“Delivering a construction project as the General Contractor is a complex process that requires a professional approach from design through to completion. The new City Point Okęcie Cargo Terminal is based on modern technologies, including energy-efficient materials, intelligent building management systems, as well as advanced construction and prefabrication techniques,” says Marcin Popek, Project Manager at Depenbrock Polska.
The Peakside Capital investment stands out for its commitment to sustainability in the areas of energy efficiency, water management, and green construction. The project scope and schedule included all necessary measures to meet both the EU Taxonomy for new buildings and BREEAM and LEED certification requirements.
“By introducing innovative solutions in Peakside Capital’s industrial projects in Poland, we take full responsibility for their quality and durability. Our cooperation with Ruukki is a deliberate, long-term investment—both in terms of circular economy principles and the challenges posed by climate change. Choosing low-carbon sandwich panels made entirely from recycled steel perfectly aligns with Peakside Capital’s commitment to the circular economy. Additionally, the new panel color standard reduces heat absorption, improving buildings’ energy efficiency and extending their lifespan,” says Katarzyna Krześniak, ESG Project Manager at Peakside Capital.
