Following Etele Plaza shopping centre and all three phases of the Budapest ONE office complex, Corvin Innovation Campus office building has also achieved the BREEAM Outstanding sustainability rating. This marks the third Futureal development to receive the highest recognition for sustainable buildings based on operational performance. According to these results, the above projects currently rank among the best-performing buildings in Hungary in the BREEAM In-Use Commercial category.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is one of the world’s most widely recognised and stringent green building certification systems. In the In-Use category, experts assessed the day-to-day operation of Corvin Innovation Campus, rating its performance as outstanding in several areas, including energy consumption, accessibility and flexibility.
The first phase of the next-generation Corvin Innovation Campus office building was developed in Józsefváros, as an extension of the Corvin Promenade. The 16,650 sqm development, located at the intersection of Szigony Street and Tömő Street, is currently one of the most energy-efficient office buildings in Hungary, holding an A+ energy rating. The complex is situated less than 200 metres from a metro station, ensuring fast and convenient access by public transport.
The development features a fully integrated smart building management system that optimises mechanical and electrical operations, alongside low-carbon and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. The office building is also equipped with a smart, low-emission parking system, with 10% of parking spaces fitted with electric vehicle chargers. A rooftop photovoltaic system is expected to cover approximately 40% of the garage’s lighting demand.
Precision filtration systems, UV sterilisation units and activated carbon filters installed in the building’s mechanical system ensure some of the cleanest indoor air quality in Budapest. The outdoor courtyard provides a pleasant recreational space, while the spacious inner courtyard—accessible from the central lobby—functions as a large shared outdoor living area, designed with careful consideration of sunlight exposure and architectural form. The building is almost entirely touchless and fully accessible, with particular emphasis placed on maximising natural daylight.
“The latest BREEAM In-Use Outstanding certification clearly validates the consistent sustainability approach underpinning Futureal’s developments. Following Etele Plaza and Budapest ONE in Újbuda, this project completes a kind of ‘hat-trick’, with three of our landmark buildings achieving the highest sustainability rating based on actual operation,” said Gábor Radványi, Chief Architect of Futureal.
Last year, Corvin Innovation Campus also received the WELL Core Platinum certification, which prioritises the creation of a healthy, people-centric working environment. The certification confirms that the design and construction of the building focused on factors that enhance occupant wellbeing, such as air and water quality, natural light, physical activity and mental health.
The nine-storey, pet-friendly office building, distinguished by its unique façade and architectural design, features a public memorial park at its main entrance named after Irén Psota, a celebrated Hungarian actress. This unique community space has revitalised the surrounding area of Szigony Street. The park was designed as a natural continuation of the award-winning, internationally recognised Corvin Promenade, where sculptures such as Gömböc, Dual and Triptichon were strategically positioned by Futureal to subtly guide pedestrians towards the Psota Irén Memorial Park.
