BuildGreen and GTC, the building’s owner, announced that Premium Point and Premium Plaza in Bucharest have achieved LEED v4.1 Existing Buildings certification at Platinum level.
Premium Plaza (PPL) and Premium Point (PPO), with GLA of 8,468 sqm and 6,354 sqm respectively, are two landmark office buildings in Bucharest’s Central Business District (CBD) and have been part of GTC’s portfolio since 2016.
“The certifications obtained by Premium Point and Premium Plaza are a successful example of how Bucharest’s built environment can evolve and adapt”, said Răzvan Nica, CEO and Founder of BuildGreen. “GTC’s investments in optimising the two buildings, inaugurated more than 15 years ago, resulted in achieving LEED Existing Buildings at Platinum level and demonstrate how the involvement of responsible developers with a well-established ESG policy contributes to the sustainable strengthening of Bucharest’s existing office hubs.”
Inaugurated in 2008 and 2009 respectively, Premium Plaza and Premium Point stood out through their recently completed assessments and certifications for above-average energy efficiency, supported by system optimisation and lower energy consumption compared to similar buildings.
“As the first commercial developer in CEE to publish a comprehensive ESG report, GTC has consistently focused on sustainable development, recognising our responsibility toward the environment, our immediate surroundings, and the local communities we are part of. This achievement also means that all GTC assets in Romania are now LEED certified. In Bucharest, we own four office buildings with a total leasable area of 62,000 sqm, each holding a LEED certificate at Gold or Platinum level – confirming the high quality of our portfolio on the office market,” said Gabriela Cirstea, Asset Manager GTC Romania.
Another area where both buildings excel is Indoor Environmental Quality, through superior indoor air quality. Measurements specific to this indicator and the calculation of the fresh air rate confirmed compliance with applicable international standards and the provision of a high level of comfort and health for occupants.
Premium Point achieved the maximum score under the Water Performance criterion following the implementation of effective measures to reduce water consumption, while Premium Plaza stood out for Waste Management after significantly improving separate collection and recycling.
The certification process took approximately three months and involved a rigorous on-site and documentation-based assessment, from indoor air quality measurements and an ASHRAE audit (a standardised assessment of the building and its systems such as HVAC, lighting and automation/BMS) to the consolidation of energy, water and waste data over 12 consecutive months.
