Colosseum Mall and Happy Cinema have officially confirmed their partnership to launch a premium multiplex cinema within the mall premises. The joint venture, set to be unveiled in the coming year, will feature five screening rooms accommodating around 400 seats. A substantial investment of €1.4 million has been dedicated to the development of Happy Cinema Colosseum, promising an immersive cinematic experience through cutting-edge design, modern amenities, and advanced technology.
Ecaterina Mateescu, the administrator of Happy Cinema, expressed her excitement for the groundbreaking Happy Cinema Colosseum, and commented, “Happy Cinema Colosseum represents a pivotal project for our company, both in terms of location and innovative vision, as well as the allocated budget. The initiative is set to redefine the traditional movie-viewing journey, offering an exquisite blend of exceptional technological advancements and utmost comfort for a truly indulgent and relaxing experience. The upscale cinema will be equipped with cinema armchairs, and the premium room will feature recliner armchairs, elevating the comfort level of the cinephiles. Our goal is for the audience to experience the sensation of entering the enchanting realm of movie stars.”
For Colosseum Mall, Happy Cinema has planned cutting-edge logistics and technology, encompassing the complete outfitting and design of the cinema halls and lobbies, as well as the implementation of advanced projection and sound systems. Traditional cinema seats will be substituted with luxurious cinema armchairs, while the Premium room will be furnished with recliner armchairs, ensuring optimal comfort for customers’ enjoyment. Additionally, the digital projection equipment with lamp-based projectors will be replaced with projectors incorporating laser technology. Moreover, the spaces will be designed to accommodate private events and a diverse array of entertainment content, ranging from live theatre performances to a variety of shows.
“The past few years have brought about a series of novelties regarding our customers’ preferences, many of which are reflected in the further development strategy of Colosseum Mall. Customization, premium services, and facilities focused on our customers’ offline experience are a goal for both us and our partners. The project conceived by Happy Cinema aligns perfectly with our objectives, and we are thrilled to collaborate with this successful Romanian brand,” added Mihai Dinu, General Manager of Colosseum Mall.
Happy Cinema, established in 2012, has become a prominent Romanian cinema brand, boasting a network of eight cinemas across the country. The brand witnessed a substantial increase in cinema footfall throughout 2023, approaching pre-pandemic attendance levels.
“2023 was the year in which the audience’s presence in cinemas approached the level of the pre-pandemic period, and also the year in which we began the development of our network outside Romania. We initiated this expansion with a location in the Republic of Moldova and intend to further expand our network in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary,” concluded Ecaterina Mateescu.
With an annual footfall of over 400,000 customers, Happy Cinema has become a preferred entertainment destination. The movies that generated the highest traffic for Happy Cinema this year were Avatar, Barbie, and Romina VTM.
