The Role of Low-Latency Technologies in the Development of Cloud Gaming – The Importance of Data Center Location Illustrated by the Investment of DL Invest Group and Boosteroid explores how the rapid growth of cloud gaming in recent years is directly linked to advancements in low-latency technologies. Minimising data transmission delays is a critical factor in delivering a gaming experience comparable to local hardware execution—without the need for high-end devices.
In the cloud gaming model, every player action must be transmitted to a server, processed, and returned in real time. Even minimal latency (above a few tens of milliseconds) can significantly degrade gameplay quality. As a result, the development of this industry is tightly dependent on infrastructure capable of processing data as close to the end user as possible.
Data Center Location as the Foundation of Low Latency
One of the most important factors influencing latency levels is the physical location of data centers. The closer the computing infrastructure is to users, the shorter the data travel distance and the lower the latency. For this reason, global cloud and gaming service providers are increasingly deploying distributed networks of data centers, often referred to as edge computing infrastructure.
Modern gaming and AI-oriented data centers must meet additional requirements, including high GPU compute density, access to stable and scalable energy sources, and the ability to expand efficiently. This means selecting locations not only near user clusters but also where robust power and logistics infrastructure is available.
Case Study: Strategic Partnership Between DL Invest Group and Boosteroid
This approach is reflected in the joint venture between DL Invest Group and Boosteroid—one of the world’s leading cloud gaming providers. The company already operates a globally distributed infrastructure and manages a network of 29 data centers worldwide, spanning Europe and the Americas, making it one of the largest GPU-based cloud gaming infrastructures.
Under the JV structure, the partners plan to develop a network of up to 12 data centers across Europe, forming the backbone for cloud services, AI workloads, and ultra-low-latency gaming infrastructure.
Bielsko-Biała as a Low-Latency Infrastructure Hub
The first project under the joint venture is located in Bielsko-Biała, where one of the largest data center facilities in the region is being developed. The site is expected to reach up to 200 MW of total capacity, starting from an initial phase of 50–82 MW, with further expansion potential.
The location was chosen strategically. The site—formerly an industrial manufacturing complex—offers access to high-capacity existing power infrastructure (over 80 MW), significantly accelerating deployment and enabling GPU-intensive workloads. Additionally, its well-developed transport and logistics network supports fast construction and scalable operations.
From a cloud gaming perspective, this translates into the ability to deliver services closer to users in Central and Eastern Europe, directly reducing latency and improving player experience.
Next-Generation Infrastructure for Gaming and AI
The data centers developed under the DL Invest Group and Boosteroid partnership are designed as hyperscale facilities optimized for AI, HPC, and real-time game streaming workloads. Advanced cooling technologies and GPU-centric architectures will enable the handling of rapidly growing computational demands.
This development aligns with the broader “neocloud” trend—a new generation of cloud infrastructure combining high performance, low latency, and localized data processing.
Market and Industry Impact
Investment in distributed data center infrastructure is a key driver of the continued evolution of cloud gaming. Low-latency technologies, supported by strategically positioned facilities, enable:
- Democratization of access to high-quality gaming experiences
- Development of new content distribution models
- Integration of gaming with AI and real-time services
The Bielsko-Biała project demonstrates that Poland can play a significant role in building Europe’s digital infrastructure, emerging as a key hub for ultra-low-latency services.
The future of cloud gaming depends on infrastructure designed to minimize latency. Physical data center location, energy availability, and proximity to end users are now as critical as cloud technologies themselves. The partnership between DL Invest Group and Boosteroid, along with the investment in Bielsko-Biała, represents a strategic step toward building the next generation of digital infrastructure in Europe.
