Panattoni developing further premises for Amazon – EuropaProperty

Panattoni is once again developing premises for Amazon Logistics, the division of international online retailer Amazon responsible for the “last mile” in shipments.

Panattoni is erecting a facility with 6,666 sqm of logistics space and 1,025 sqm of office space and social areas on the 60,000 sqm site. This project is the fourth collaboration between Panattoni and Amazon. Panattoni has already realised two other distribution centres for Amazon in Germany: in Kaltenkirchen-Nützen in the key logistics region of Hamburg and in Knüllwald near Kassel. Amazon also moved into premises developed by Panattoni in Düsseldorf without pre-letting.

Panattoni is implementing this project in the Rothensee industrial complex in Magdeburg, which already has established infrastructure. The distribution centre will have excellent access to several federal autobahns, such as the A2 and A14. Magdeburg is a dynamic location for economic growth in eastern Germany and, thanks to its central location between the urban centres of Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig, is becoming an increasingly important location for e-commerce and logistics.

After taking out a long-term lease for the premises, online retailer Amazon will use the new distribution centre for last-mile logistics in B2C shipments. The building concept developed by Amazon combines classical distribution centre elements with a cross-dock concept, in which vehicles load goods at the side of the distribution centre. Awnings will protect the drivers and allow loading to take place sheltered from the elements. This concept also offers maximum flexibility and scope for a change of use at a later date. Whereas a conventional distribution centre model only provides for one specific use, this building type offers greater flexibility.

This building concept therefore represents a solution that is user-specific and sustainable in equal measure.”

The logistics centre in Magdeburg will be handed over to its new tenant, Amazon, in time for the Christmas 2020 business season. CBRE GmbH was involved as consultant on this project.
