ParkLake, a joint venture project from Sonae Sierra and Caelum Development, that opened in September 2016 in Bucharest, Romania, is one of the 3 finalists at the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) European Awards. Running on the category of best European new development between 45,001 and 85,000 sqm ParkLake is already proving to be a leading European destination for shopping and leisure. The winners will be revealed at the ICSC European Conference Awards event in April 2018 that will occur in Barcelona, Spain.
Competing for “Best Development” in Europe, ParkLake represents an €180 million investment that offers high quality retail on 70,000 sqm GLA with more than 200 shops, including 23 restaurants, a multiplex cinema, and 2,450 spaces of underground car parking. Beyond shopping, ParkLake is a destination offering the best customer experience with an environmentally friendly design, complemented by a distinctive mix of entertainment, and sports features, next to Titan Park. Among many ground-breaking experiences, visitors are presented with new concepts of retail and leisure, and a unique set of tenants including several brands entering the Romanian market for the first time. Its appealing architecture and design perfectly match with the neighbouring Titan Park and assure a comfortable and pleasant stay in a new environment, like no other shopping centre in the country.
“We are pleased to announce that ParkLake has been selected as a finalist in the category of Europe’s “Best Development.” As ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards are recognised as the most prestigious in the field of European retail property, we are very proud that ParkLake is selected amongst the most outstanding new shopping centre in Europe,” commented Ingo Nissen, Sonae Sierra Developments, Romania Managing Director.
“Making the final short list, is a further acknowledgement for all the hard work and efforts that have gone into making ParkLake one of Europe’s top Retail and Leisure destinations,” said TJ Kearns, Caelum Development Director.
Widely acknowledged to be the most prestigious recognition within the industry, ICSC’s awards, which are assessed by senior international industry figures, offer owners, developers, architects, and shopping centre managers the opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience. The awards are the result of a detailed assessment and personal on-site inspection of the centres by the ICSC jury.
The members of the jury appreciated that, beyond shopping, ParkLake is a destination offering the best customer experience with an environmentally friendly design, complemented by a distinctive mix of entertainment, and sports features, next to Titan Park. With a design themed around “Park – Nature – Family”, the international food court offer is also well integrated within the space’s architectural theme and its comfortable environment, including a large natural skylight and a terrace with beautiful views over the surrounding park.
Earlier this year, ParkLake confirmed its outstanding success achieving three international awards and being recognised as one of the most distinguished shopping centre in Europe and the most modern and innovative shopping centre in Bucharest.
