Jayne Rafter, Publisher of RLI, the world’s only global retail and leisure magazine will be taking part in the ‘Clipper Round The World Yacht Race’ to raise money for Unicef, the world’s leading children’s organisation.
All the funds raised will support Unicef’s work to protect children in danger, transform their lives and build a safer world for tomorrow’s children. Unicef works in 190 countries and ensures more of the world’s children are fed, vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation.
To raise money for Unicef, Jayne is taking part in ‘The Clipper Race’, one of the biggest events in the natural world. Partaking in Leg 1: The Atlantic Trade Winds Leg, she will set sail from St Katherine Docks Marina, London on the 1 September to Punta Del Este, Uruguay with an arrival window between the 15-17 October.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a sailing race around the world in eight legs, with trained amateur crew members. The organisers own a fleet of identical yachts, the Clipper 70, and provide qualified skippers and additional qualified persons to lead each team. Eleven teams will race across the Atlantic, with a pit stop in Portimao, Portugal before routing towards the canaries to seek the Trade Winds to take them towards the Equator and onto South America.
Jayne Rafter, Race Crew member said of the challenge, “I have chosen to take part in the event as I have always challenged myself as a person, both professionally and domestically to achieve something greater. During my travels around the world as Publisher of a Global Retail magazine I have seen first-hand children living on the streets in squalor, supporting Unicef gives me an opportunity to make a difference no matter how small. Every child deserves a future, clean water, sanitation, nutrition, education, health care and above all to be safe from danger and atrocities bestowed upon them.” She continues, “With no connectivity to the outside world or family, it’s going to be a big challenge and more than a little daunting but the immense satisfaction that you get from knowing you are making a difference makes it all worthwhile.”
