Sonae Sierra avoided €22 million in costs in 2023 due to eco-efficiency measures
Sonae Sierra avoided €22 million in operating costs during 2023 by implementing a wide range of measures that improved eco-efficiency levels. According to the Economic Environmental and Social Report, the company has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 88 percent since 2005, reduced its electricity consumption by 68 percent since 2002 and achieved a 41 percent reduction in water consumption since 2003.
According to Elsa Monteiro, Sonae Sierra’s Sustainability Director, “We see sustainability as an unwavering commitment, reflected not only in the improvement of our environmental performance but also in our capacity for innovation and the adoption of ESG principles.”
The 5-star Green Star rating, once again awarded by GRESB for the funds managed by Sierra, is a clear example of the company’s commitment to including best practices and performance in environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters.
80 percent of the units in the first phase of One Lake District presold
Developer One United Properties announced that one year after the sales launch for One Lake District, a large-scale sustainable development in Bucharest, 80 percent of Phase 1 has been pre-sold. This phase includes over 620 apartments. Phase 1 of the project has a gross development value of over €138 million, with completion estimated for the second quarter of 2025.
”Aligning with our long-term strategic urban regeneration development plan, One Lake District is an evolving project that redefines the industrial area of the former brick factory into a large urban waterfront”, says Beatrice Dumitrașcu, CEO of Residential Division One United Properties.
Accor to open first Mercure hotel in Bulgaria
Hospitality group Accor will open this autumn Mercure Sofia, the first hotel under the midscale brand in Bulgaria. The project will be operated under a franchise agreement with Festa Hotels.
“The addition of Mercure Sofia marks a significant step in increasing our footprint in the Balkans, a region with strong potential for further growth,” said Frank Reul, Vice President of Development for Accor’s Premium, Midscale & Economy brands in Eastern Europe, Balkans, Italy & Greece.
Multi-brand retailer, Woolworth joins Bielsko-Biała retail park
Woolworth, a pioneer of multi-brand, large-format discount shops, will enter Redkom Development’s retail park under construction in Bielsko-Biała, occupying over 1,000 sqm. This will be the brand’s first shop in the city.
Woolworth has announced a dynamic expansion. In the medium term, it plans to open a chain of 5,000 shops across Europe. In Poland, the company plans to open around 40 new shops in 2024 and a target of 400 units.
“The construction of the new retail park in Bielsko-Biała is already well advanced. With an opening planned for the end of this year,” says Elżbieta Kutrasińska, Head of Leasing, Redkom Development.
