IKEA obtains building permit for the construction of its second store in Bucharest
IKEA, Swedish furniture retailer, announced that is has obtained the building permit for the construction of its second store in Bucharest, located on Boulevard Theodor Pallady no.57, Romania.
The company plans to begin construction works shortly and is expected to complete the project by the end of 2018.
The second IKEA store in Bucharest will have a gross built area of 37,000 sqm, becoming the largest IKEA unit in South East Europe.
The Swedish furniture giant entered Romania in 2007 and currently operates one store in Bucharest, situated on Bucuresti-Ploiesti Road no.42A. In addition to its standalone unit, the company operates an e-commerce website, delivering its products to customers across the country.
In the financial year 2016 (ending on the 31st of August), IKEA’s sales in Romania amounted to 115 million EUR, a 21.2 percent increase compared to the previous year.
As previously announced, IKEA aims to open three more stores in cities of Timisoara, Cluj and Brasov by 2020, while its long-term plan is to reach a total of nine units in Romania.
Within the South East Europe region, the retailer is also present in Croatia, Bulgaria and Serbia.
