Sporthotel Fontana, located directly at the valley station to the surrounding ski areas Saalbach Hinterglemm /Leogang /Fieberbrunn, now has a new owner thanks to Christie & Co. Auszeit Hotel & Resort AG, a developer of hotel and vacation properties in Germany and Austria, is taking over the hotel from the Verkehrsbüro Group, Austria’s largest tourism group.
In the midst of the famous vacation destination in Tyrol and in a prime location directly at the Fieberbrunn valley station, the hotel, which has been established for decades, is one of the leading tourism businesses in the entire region. Due to its location directly at the ski slope of one of the largest ski areas in Austria, which in summer is a world-renowned region for mountain biking and the unobstructed views of the mountain panorama of the Kitzbühel Alps, the hotel offers stable prospects in the future as a year-round business. On the property area of over 9,000 sqm there are a total of 125 guest rooms and a spacious spa area with indoor pool. A restaurant, a hotel bar and an additional après-ski bar complete the offer.
The former owner, the Verkehrsbüro Group (which is represented in Austria and Slovenia with the brands Austria Trend Hotels and BASSENA) has sold the hotel in Austria’s most well-known tourist destination Tyrol to the experienced German company Auszeit Hotel & Resort AG. With this purchase, Auszeit Hotel & Resort AG expands its existing portfolio with a classic ski resort hotel with great development potential. The seller was supported by hotel real estate specialist Christie & Co, which executed the sale as part of a structured sales process. “We would like to thank Christie & Co for their professional support throughout the process and are delighted that in Auszeit AG we have found a buyer who appreciates the location and future potential of Sporthotel Fontana”, commented Martin Winkler, CEO of Verkehrsbüro Group, on the sale.
“We are proud that we have been able to expand our portfolio with the Sporthotel Fontana, a unique hotel in a top vacation region in Austria and would like to thank the Verkehrsbüro Group for their willingness to also provide us with operational support in the coming months. In the medium term, a comprehensive renovation and modernization are planned, along with a repositioning. We want to create an adequate product for this outstanding location”, explains Holger Götze of Auszeit Hotel & Resort AG.
According to real estate expert Christie & Co, the timing of the sale was strategically sound, despite the current situation. “We perceived a shift in investor preferences in recent months, especially due to the pandemic, which is increasingly turning towards holiday resorts and leisure hotels, as these can be among the winners of the crisis in the medium term due to changes in travel habits. We are very pleased to have found an experienced tourism specialist in Auszeit Hotel & Resort AG, who knows the Austrian hotel market and wants to capitalize on this trend. We wish much joy and success with the new property”, summarizes Simon Kronberger, Director Austria & CEE at Christie & Co, who accompanied the sales process with his team.
