The upgrading and modernization process at the KING CROSS Zagreb shopping center has reached a significant stage of its development: On February 27, the first part of the mall building to have been fully renovated and modernized in recent months during ongoing business activities. The owner, SES, which also operates the shopping center itself, will have invested a total of over EUR 40 million in the complete refurbishment of KING CROSS by fall next year. This also includes raising the standard of the technical facilities and parking garages to a new high level. The upgrade will transform the location step by step into the most modern shopping destination in the country – all while continuing normal operations. The highlight of the first opening now taking place is that, alongside the new anchor tenants Müller Drogerie and the fashion provider Sinsay, the largest and most modern Decathlon in Croatia is the popular flagship store of the new design.
The comprehensive modernization of KING CROSS Zagreb pursues a clear vision: to create a sustainable, innovative and attractive shopping experience for every generation. In the final rollout, the new concept will offer not only visibly improved retail areas and architectural measures but also a unique gastronomic zone plus a central piazza that is set to become a new meeting place for Zagreb.
Christoph Andexlinger, CEO SES Spar European Shopping Centers, commented, “The transformation process we have initiated in KING CROSS is setting new standards for customer focus in Croatia. We always aim to create vibrant spaces where people love to linger and which offer a special shopping experience. We want to be a permanent part of everyday life. The new spirit is already clearly visible in the section of the mall that we have just freshly renovated. And we will be continuing this approach to the complete renovation of the building into next year.”
Zoran Karamatić, Country Manager SES Croatia, commented: “This opening of the first modernized part of the mall is a really important milestone on the way to the complete modernization of KING CROSS. Our visitors will already be wowed by the timeless modern architecture and the standard of the new facilities.”
Attractive new shops and the most modern Decathlon in Croatia
Visitors can look forward to attractive new store openings in the modernized area of the mall: Müller Drogerie, Sinsay and Polleo Sport are present in KING CROSS for the first time, while football specialist R-GOL is opening its first-ever shop in Croatia. A particular highlight of the first opening phase is also the relaunch of the most modern and largest Decathlon store in Croatia. The global sports brand is now showcasing its most innovative shop design in KING CROSS, offering customers intuitive navigation and a unique shopping experience. Retailers that are already established at the center, such as Harvey Norman, JYSK, Pepco and Sport Vision, have also opted for a completely new design. As a special benefit for sports-mad Croatia, with Decathlon, R-GOL, Sport Vision and Polleo Sport, sports expertise is now concentrated in one place in KING CROSS Zagreb.
Convenient shopping with new infrastructure
KING CROSS will also continue to offer its visitors the maximum convenience during the next renovation phase, which will take place shortly: as well as the entrance on the north side, the shopping center will also be accessible via a new entrance from the south side, which will give visitors easy access to all the shops. Decathlon will retain its separate entrance but will also once again be directly connected to the shopping mall. There are also plenty of free parking facilities available. More than half of the total parking area has already been renovated and offers convenient, wide parking spaces.
KING CROSS has been a fixed element of the Zagreb shopping landscape since it opened in 2002. The shopping center has been managed by SES Spar European Shopping Centers since 2018.
