Kingfisher acquires DIY chain Praktiker in Romania – EuropaProperty

Kingfisher, one of Europe’s leading home improvement retailers, announced that it has fully acquired the DIY retail chain Praktiker in Romania from the Turkish Susli family.

The takeover will further strengthen Kingfisher’s market presence in the Romanian market, extending its retail network to a total of 42 stores.

At present, the London-based DIY retailer operates 15 Brico Depot DIY stores in Romania, which they acquired in April 2013 from the French Besson Group.

“Romania has an increasingly attractive DIY and interior design market and we have always had the intention of increasing our market share. Subject to the Competition Council approval, the strategic acquisition of Praktiker Romania, along with the Brico Depot store structure, gives us a strong presence across the country,” said Adela Smeu, CEO of Brico Depot Romania.

Praktiker is one of the leading DIY chains in Romania with 27 stores in 23 cities nationwide. In 2016, the company achieved a turnover of 139.5 million EUR, up by 3 percent compared to the previous year.

In 2014, the German DIY retailer Praktiker sold its Romanian subsidiary to the Turkish businessmen Omer Susli.
