Kajima Properties Europe (KPE), the asset, development and investment management arm of the NIKKEI-listed Kajima Corporation, has broken ground on its new 517-bed Student Depot residence in Gdańsk. This will be the second Student Depot dormitory in the city, underscoring the brand’s continued expansion and leadership as Poland’s largest PBSA platform.
The new scheme is designed to meet BREEAM Very Good standards and will provide approximately 7,600 sq m NLA over eight floors, with over 750 sq m of amenity space, including a gym, workspaces, entertainment spaces, lounges, a games room, and a winter garden. Pekabex has been appointed as the main contractor.
Scheduled to open in September 2027, the development strengthens Student Depot’s presence in a key academic hub with an undersupply of PBSA.
The investment launched in Gdańsk and the secured project in Warsaw form part of Student Depot’s long-term growth strategy. Together, these developments will add more than 1,100 new units to the portfolio, increasing total capacity to over 5,600 student beds.
Since entering the Polish market in 2019, Kajima has grown Student Depot into the country’s largest PBSA platform, with 9 completed developments to date. Beyond Poland, KPE continues to assess opportunities across Europe, with a focus on undersupplied markets in western and central Europe.
Jan Trybulski, Head of Poland at Kajima Europe, said: “Starting construction in Gdańsk is another important step in the continued expansion of our Student Depot portfolio. The city is a key market for our core strategy and, with a limited availability of high-quality student accommodation, offers a significant long-term opportunity to leverage KPE’s development expertise.”
Michal Obara, Managing Director, Student Depot, said: “Breaking ground at our second facility in Gdańsk underlines Student Depot’s continued growth, supported by KPE, across Poland’s key markets. Our experience as Poland’s largest developer and operator of PBSA gives us confidence that the scheme will be delivered successfully to provide modern, safe and comfortable accommodation that meets the expectations of our residents.”
