Panattoni Europe, a leader on the industrial property market in Poland, has launched a courier parcel distribution centre project for GLS Poland. This cross-dock facility will cover around 7,600 sqm and is being developed in the BTS and BTO formula in Janki near Warsaw. Execution of the project officially commenced on 20 July and the actual project start-up is scheduled for February 2018.
GLS Poland, one of the leading courier service providers in the Polish and European markets, hired Panattoni Europe to develop an advanced courier parcel distribution centre. This tailored facility is being developed as the company’s property of approximately 7,600 sqm.
The loading building, composed of two loading fingers, will occupy 6,600 sqm and will be fitted with 160 courier gates (including 40 two-function entrances for the purposes of the sorting plant) as well as 16 unloading gates fitted with the internal utilities necessary for quick sorting.
Office space will occupy 1,000 sqm on two floors. Nearly 20k sqm vehicle circulation areas, roads and parking spaces are designed on the project site, with possible future enlargement options. The entire project will be located on a land plot sized over 5.7 hectares in Janki near Warsaw at Zdrojowa Street. Development of the centre commenced in July and commissioning will take place in February 2018.
As emphasized by Tomasz Kroll, Region Manager GLS Poland: “To ensure rapid growth of our company, we continuously invest in our network. Our decision to set up a new location in this region is the next step of our expansion strategy. During recent years, the volume of parcels has been increasing regularly, and a project with such a large volume and at such a level of technological advancement answers our customers’ needs. The new branch will certainly contribute to the improvement of our logistic and courier handling processes at the ‘last mile’ stage.”
The facility being developed by Panattoni Europe for GLS Poland is an advanced cross-dock with two functions – primary (to be managed by courier services) and secondary (night-time hub). At the time of commencement of business activities, the project will handle around 80,000 parcels daily. This is the first GLS Poland facility executed by this real estate development company.
Marek Dobrzycki, Managing Director at Panattoni Europe, said: “It is a great honor for us, irrespective of our numerous developments for the global leaders of the transport and logistics services markets. Obviously, we can be proud of our outstanding knowledge of this area and of our ability to select optimized solutions, in terms of location, equipment, character and additional services of the facility. However, this transaction is more than a verification of our service quality, our flexibility and partnership-oriented approach.”
The center will have a perfect location, in Janki near Warsaw, in the immediate vicinity of the Puchały interchange on the S2 expressway, Wrocław direction, S7 expressway, and 3km away from the A2 ring, classified as a motorway.
With this location, the company will have optimized conditions for its distribution activities on the territory of Poland; in addition to the perfect connection to expressways, it will have rapid access to the city centre and to the exits towards the northern and eastern part of the region.
