BuildGreen, a leading consultant in the field of sustainable building design, development and certification on the Romanian market, has acted as advisor in the green certification of more than 1 million sqm properties to date in Romania. This achievement refers to office, retail, industrial and residential properties certified during 2010-2015, or currently under certification.
Over 400,000 sqm of this area corresponds to projects that have been undergoing the green certification process during 2015, out of which 300,000 sqm were already certified and the remaining 100,000 sqm are due to end the certification process by the beginning of next year.
In the first three quarters of 2015 only, BuildGreen obtained 17 certificates of sustainability for both new and existing buildings, for clients such as: NEPI (Braila Mall and Galati Shopping City), Aberdeen Asset Management (Iris Titan and Phoenix Tower), Genesis Development (West Gate and Novo Park), Hornbach Romania.
“I am very proud of the wonderful results achieved by our team and, moreover, I am honoured to have contributed to our clients’ vision for sustainable building in Romania. We will continue our market leadership by bridging technical acumen with a proactive and pragmatic approach to sustainability, while making sure that a commercial outlook is maintained and the clients’ brief adhered to,” commented Razvan Nica, Managing Director BuildGreen.
Out of the 1 million sqm of properties assisted by BuildGreen during the past five years, 60 percent represent office projects, another 30 percent correspond to retail developments, whereas the remaining 10% are represented by residential and logistic properties. For all these properties, BuildGreen provided consultancy services for the green certification of buildings (LEED and BREEAM), as well as project-based studies (energy modelling, Life Cycle Cost Assessment etc.) for buildings aiming to obtain a green certification.
“So far, 2015 was a spectacular year for sustainable development in Romania – the market is back on the development track, with many new high-quality projects that are reshaping both the city skylines and the approach to sustainability. As “green” already became a “must”, developers are paying more and more attention to the ratio between the investments and actual benefits of sustainable building and, in this context, green certification is no longer limited to the role of a marketing tool, but is steadily gaining its well-deserved place as a management tool for efficient development”, added Razvan Nica.
2015 also marks the expansion of BuildGreen’s operations across the borders, the company being assigned to manage the certification of a residential development in Lebanon. The project comprises 150 apartment buildings totalling 100,000 sqm and is expected to finalize the green certification process in 2018.
Founded in 2010, BuildGreen was the first company to offer sustainable building consulting services in Romania and, to date, has been the market leader – both in terms of portfolio size (over 30 buildings certified to date in Romania) and success rate – BuildGreen achieved the highest certification level ever obtained by a building in Romania (BREEAM Excellent), all certifications had a minimum BREEAM Very Good / LEED Gold level, whereas 25 percent of the certified projects achieved superior levels (Excellent).
The list of clients and partners that BuildGreen has been working for, include: Mulberry Development (Ovidiu Sandor), Immochan, NEPI, Globalworth Asset Management, EBRD, Aberdeen Asset Management, Colliers International, Portland Trust, S Group Holding, Genesis Development, Padeco, BogArt, Strabag, Bluehouse Development.
