Detsky Mir Group, the largest children’s goods retailer in Russia and Kazakhstan, has leased a two storey retail premises totalling 1,032 sqm on Prospekt Mira, where a new store by the chain will soon appear. Colliers International represented the owner in the deal.
The new Detsky Mir store at 122 Prospekt Mira will open its doors to visitors in June 2015. The store will open under a new concept as a unique family and children’s leisure centre, including a full assortment of children’s goods and services.
With this new store, the Detsky Mir retail chain will reach 286 stores and megastores in 121 cities in Russia and Kazakhstan. The cumulative area of all stores is in excess of 396,000 sqm. Detsky Mir stores offer a wide assortment of goods for children from 0 to 12 years of age, including clothing and footwear, baby food, toys for boys and girls and educational products for early childhood development and schoolchildren.
Maximilian Bolzer, Deputy Director for Development, Detsky Mir Group, commented: “Our company considers street retail premises for new stores much less often than space in professional shopping centres. However, if a property has a unique location and there are no Detsky Mir stores operating in close proximity, then we are prepared to negotiate cooperation conditions. In this case, the deciding factor was the historic location in the neighbourhood of Prospekt Mira. There was a children’s store in the Alekseevsky District many years ago, which is why many of the local residents associate the district with Detsky Mir.”
Ekaterina Podlesnykh, Head of Street Retail Group, Colliers International Russia, noted: “The new Detsky Mir will be the chain’s only store in the Prospekt Mir neighbourhood. Moreover, it will be in the street retail format, which is unusual for the retailer. As a rule, Detsky Mir Group leases space for its stores in modern shopping centres or turnkey premises.”
