Six years after it opened its doors in the South of Bucharest, Sun Plaza Shopping Center is ready for a new challenge: a refurbishment process that will significantly improve the retail mix and shop count. The major construction work of reshaping will affect 11,000 sqm and in total will offer space designed to host up to 40 new stores.
The upgrading process of Sun Plaza will start in the first quarter of 2016 and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.
The extension works, designed by architects and engineers from ATP Vienna and coordinated by Optim Project Management, will cover the refurbishment as well as the redevelopment of significant mall area.
Friedrich Wachernig, member of S IMMO AG’s Management Board, commented: “This reshaping process aims to offer our customers a more hip, vibrant and eclectic shopping experience, as well as an optimum mix of brands and services. We are convinced that this will strengthen Sun Plaza’s position on the Bucharest retail market as a destination of sensations.”
Opened in February 2010, Sun Plaza is the dominant shopping centre in South Bucharest, with a built area of around 200,000 sqm, managed by CBRE Romania and owned by S IMMO AG.
Sun Plaza is an “All inclusive” shopping centre, with 140 stores, including relaxing coffee shops, a cinema centre, a bowling alley, child care facilities, and a vibrant food court with 1,200 seats. Its main anchor tenants are Cora, Leroy Merlin, Cinema City, Zara, C&A, H&M, Bebetei and Flanco.
The shopping centre enjoys a convenient and accessible location in the South of Bucharest, in the heart of the most populated area of the city, “Sudului Square”. A major advantage of this location is the metro station passage that leads visitors directly into the shopping centre, thus allowing fast access to customers using the metro network.
Sun Plaza is also easily accessible through other public transportation means due to the 20 lines directly connected to the site. The positioning, 10 minutes away from downtown, connecting district 4 with the central and northern area of Bucharest, is strategically allowing Sun Plaza to touch a large number of customers, which reached its actual peak in 2015 with around 13,5 million visitors.
