Resolution Property has commenced the enabling phase of construction work in connection with its 10,000 sqm extension of Galeria Pomorska in Bydgoszcz. The start of construction involves conversion of the former goods delivery area into a new customer car park with some 160 additional parking spaces. The new car park will be accessed via a bright new entrance located in the north-west corner of the centre near to the existing KappAhl store. As part of the enabling phase, a new good delivery area is also being constructed to the north of the new customer car park.
“The beginning of the construction works is a very exciting time for us, which we have been looking forward to. We know that retailers who have already expressed their interest in being part of the new Galeria Pomorska share our view,” said Shane Scott, Partner in Resolution Property.
Construction company Budimex, who was appointed contractor by Resolution Property for the enabling phase, is nearing completion of the demolition stage of the enabling works and preparing to lay the foundations for the new goods delivery area, entrance and car park. The enabling phase works are expected to be completed in early autumn this year.
“Being situated away from the main extension works, the new north-west car park will provide easy access and additional parking spaces for customers, particularly of Carrefour, during the main extension construction works and on an ongoing basis. Due to the phased construction approach, when the multi-storey car park is constructed we do not expect that the total number of parking spaces will drop below 800. Furthermore, on completion of the works in 2015 the total number of parking spaces will rise to 1,410, of which nearly 700 will be undercover. The total parking spaces available will be more than Galeria Pomorska has on offer today and more than is available at any other shopping centre in Bydgoszcz,” said Stuart Lang, Director at Balmain Asset Management.
On completion of the enabling phase works in early autumn, work will then start on building the new 900-space multi storey car park and afterwards the gallery extension itself which will add almost 40 new shops to Galeria Pomorska and is expected to be completed in spring 2015.
