West Group announced the launch of West Baustoff, its new B2B division dedicated to construction materials, serving developers and contractors exclusively, at a time when the local construction market is confirming its resilience despite undergoing a recalibration process.
“We are launching West Baustoff after observing increasingly strong demand from clients for complete supply delivery to construction sites, not just concrete”, said Ionuț Vasile, Development Director at West Group. “The pressure on the supply chain is most visible in residential and industrial construction. In this context, West Baustoff, a B2B platform built around the real needs of construction sites, simplifies procurement and coordinates deliveries according to execution stages, with a portfolio of materials ranging from foundations and structure through to finishes.”
In Q1 2026, 16,653 construction projects were recorded nationally, with a total cumulative area of 59.7 million square metres and an investment value of nearly 438 billion lei (approx. €86 billion). This follows a 2025 in which the number of construction projects grew nationally to 42,206, up from 37,659 in 2024, an increase of over 12%.
This positive dynamic has continued into 2026, with official data reporting a significant 30.4% rise in building permits issued in March compared to February. The Bucharest-Ilfov region, which West Baustoff covers, is leading this upward trend, recording 109 additional permits in March 2026 compared to the previous month. Last year also brought an 8.1% increase in the number of ongoing construction projects in the area.
In the first quarter of this year, Bucharest-Ilfov generated 1,650 construction projects, maintaining its 10% share of the national total recorded in 2025, when 4,264 construction sites were launched in the region. Last year, the majority of construction sites in the region, 2,934, were in the private residential sector. In the industrial and logistics segment, Ilfov County ranked first in Romania, with 485 construction projects recorded in 2025.
Against this backdrop of growing construction activity in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, West Baustoff aims to offer clients an integrated, one-stop-shop supply solution, in synergy with the West Beton division, along with a commercial and operational partnership for developers and contractors.
West Baustoff offers clients a wide range of materials, including fabricated and raw steel, welded mesh, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks and brick, as well as finishing systems and products from drywall, joint compound, plasters, adhesives and paints through to thermal and waterproofing insulation. Over 80% of deliveries are made directly from manufacturers’ warehouses, supplemented by a buffer stock to ensure continuity on construction sites.
The launch of West Baustoff comes as West Group consolidates its operational capabilities in the construction materials space. In 2025, West Beton, part of West Group, produced and delivered over 200,000 cubic metres of concrete across its three locations, with over 90% of deliveries going to residential projects as well as major infrastructure works, including Metro Line 6 and sections of the A0 motorway. West Group invested over €2.5 million in 2025 in the development of West Beton, and plans a similar budget for 2026 to expand capacity and product range.
