Kamienna 28, an exclusive project by developer ACCIONA involving the revitalization of a 19th-century oil mill in Gdańsk’s Dolne Miasto district, has received the BREEAM Interim certification at the “Good” level. The certification covers both the post-industrial buildings A and B, located at 28 Kamienna Grobla on the banks of the Nowa Motława River across from Granary Island, as well as the newly constructed building C, which complements the project along Jałmużnicza Street.
The international BREEAM Interim certification confirms that the Kamienna 28 project meets the highest construction standards and demonstrates ACCIONA’s commitment to sustainable development in line with ESG principles. It also highlights the importance of revitalizing former industrial districts to densify urban spaces in modern cities and combat climate change.
Kamienna 28 is a unique development that harmoniously blends history with modernity. Within the historic space of the 19th-century oil mill, formerly known as the Batycki Factory, buildings A and B will house 33 exclusive lofts and apartments.
“The certification results are a reflection of the project’s compliance with numerous guidelines, including indoor air quality, water-saving solutions, site accessibility, water leak detection and prevention, and thermal comfort. It also confirms that the contractor has met requirements supporting responsible construction practices, such as sourcing legal timber and managing waste effectively to minimize its volume,” explains Piotr Ratajczyk, Project Manager at ACCIONA Nieruchomości.
“The transformation of the building from industrial to residential use brings numerous environmental and social benefits, including densifying urban areas, counteracting suburban migration, and reducing car transport. Future residents of Kamienna 28 will have convenient access to cultural sites such as the Łaźnia Center for Contemporary Art, the Baltic Philharmonic, and the café and club hub on the former Royal Gun Factory grounds. Recreational areas abound in the vicinity, with Dolne Miasto being one of the greenest parts of Gdańsk. Planned projects include the revitalization of the Wilk and Wyskok bastions—former city fortifications offering vast green spaces with water access—and the redevelopment of the New Motława Boulevard. This will bring elegant steps to the waterfront and new greenery within walking distance of Kamienna 28, supporting the concept of the 15-minute city. At ACCIONA, we believe this approach is the future of the real estate industry and key to socially responsible development,” concludes Anna Terlecka, Sales Director at ACCIONA.
The completion of the Kamienna 28 project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
